When do I need a Burn Permit?
A Burn Permit is required for any open burning of leaves, brush or yard waste. Burn Permits allow us to keep track of open burning in our fire district to reduce the amount of false or nuisance alarms. A permit is not needed for recreational campfires as long as they are 3’x 3′ x 3′ or smaller. Michigan Law prohibits the burning of plastics, shingles, tires, and processed lumber. Anyone burning such restricted items may be subject to fines by the Michigan DNR and Bellevue Fire Control Board. Once approved, a permit is good for up to four consecutive days, but may be revoked if needed based on weather conditions. There is no cost to obtain a burn permit. Please note, there is no open burning allowed within Village limits, other than small recreation campfires.
